This REAL Housewife is now the REAL RURAL Housewife

Hi...remember me? I'm the REAL Housewife of Snohomish County. Well folks, I have no excuse for being absent from blogging for such a long period of time! It's been over three months to be exact. As I'm sure everyone else has been experiencing, life has really changed for us in the past few months...so hopefully you'll let it slide that I have been absent so long. Will you? Please? :)

I'm currently sitting at the table in my new kitchen. I can hear all of you now, "New Kitchen?! Didn't you just move into a new house not too long ago?" Well my dear readers, you are correct! We lived in Edmonds for just over two years...and during that time we made the most of our home, city lot and life together. But as time went on we realized that we were out growing our lot. We wanted more than that 8,000 sq. ft. lot could provide us. Mainly...I wanted more chickens! And Michael wanted a bigger garden.

So about 4 1/2 months ago we started looking for houses a little further out in Snohomish County. We looked at quite a few pieces of property ranging from 2 acres all the way up to 20 acres. After seeing a lot of nice things that were out of our price range and a lot of BAD things that were...well just bad...we finally found our new home. We fell in love with the property on the first visit, and well...we made it happen! We put in the offer and then set out to get our home sold.

If you've ever sold a home before you know that it's a royal pain in the @$$! We ended up having to paint the exterior of our home because it was time. Also, getting the inside and outside ready for the open houses proved to be a ton of work, and a lot of stress. But I find that stress motivates me, and I knew that all this was for a good reason...but that didn't stop me from bitching and complaining about it! :) Well all of our hard work paid off and our home went pending after only 4 days on the market! Success! Then the real fun began, trying to get things packed up, donated, thrown away.

Needless to say, everything worked out, and here I am...The REAL RURAL Housewife of Snohomish County. We live about 10 minutes north of the town of Snohomish here in Western Washington. The community is small, a little over 9,000 people, and it reminds me a lot of my hometown in Eastern Montana. The feel of the people is just so different than closer in to Seattle. Life is a bit slower paced out here, and it seems to be suiting me just fine. :)

I have so much that I can't wait to write about, and I am forcing myself to get back into blogging. It's not that I don't want to blog, it's that I just don't make the time. Mainly because we are still in the "getting settled" phase of life here in Snohomish. It has been non-stop projects going on around here. My biggest project was building my chicken coop. When we were looking at places, Michael told me that if we have a good amount of land that I could build the coop of my dreams. And when we found this place, I knew exactly where I wanted my coop and exactly what I wanted. Now I plan on doing a post about the building process of my coop, but for now I just want to share a snippet with you all! If you're a follower of mine on Facebook you have already seen the pictures. But if you haven't seen them...well here it is.

The picture on the top left is the chicken coop from my model farm set when I was a kid. It's the same coop that I modeled my last coop in Edmonds after! This coop is enormous, the footprint is 8' x 16' and it stands just a little over 9' tall. I'm so excited that I was able to build this coop, all on my own with no help from anyone (well except having a contractor pour the concrete slab)! I look forward to sharing the adventure with you in a future post!

While I've been working on the coop, Michael has been turning what was a small workshop off the garage into the workout room. I have to say, my husband is meticulous when it comes to his work. His painting is spot on, he tapes of EVERYTHING. He caulks any cracks, has me cut trim for the smallest things. But in the end, it looks amazing! The shop was dingy, dark, smelled musty...and he transformed it into an amazing space that actually might get me to work out...hehehehe...maybe.

As I said, I have so many things to share with you all about this journey to becoming country folk! But for now, I need to get my butt in gear. I need to go take care of the chickens and then head to town to get some more things for the watering system in the greenhouse. I hope you all forgive me for taking such a long hiatus from blogging, but think of it like your favorite television show...each one goes on a hiatus in the summer, and you are forced to watch (in this case read) reruns! :) Did you get a chance to scroll back in time and read some of my older posts? No? Well, what are you waiting for?

Until next time...Keep Cookin'!
