Exciting Times at The Farm!

It's 1:15 AM, and I really should be sleeping. But let's be honest, I can't sleep, not with all this exciting stuff happening! What's going on? Do you really want to know? Okay, I can't contain myself anymore...

I alluded to a few things a while back that were going to be happening around here, be it at my house and on my blog. Well most of those things have come to fruition. Let's start with the first, and most exciting thing. A while back a reporter from the Everett Herald contacted me after coming across my blog. And much to my surprise she wanted to do a story on me! The first thing I thought was, "Wow, slow news day, huh? Didn't we just have a bridge collapse not far from here?" That's the old self esteem kicking in there! LOL

Now I'm not going to lie, I didn't really know if it was going to happen so I didn't really want to tell anyone about it. But a week or so later she came by the house and interviewed me! And the following week the photographer came by and took pictures. It just so happened that I had a pot roast coming out of the oven at the exact time he was coming over...I wonder how that happened. ;-) Anyways, the whole experience was a bit out of sorts for me, I know that I pretty much spill my life out here on my blog, but to have someone come in and interview you, well that's a whole different thing! I also find it funny that I can set up my video camera and record a how to video for YouTube, but I can't be natural when someone wants to take pictures of me! Man, I tell you what...after both of these I didn't think they'd actually publish this story! :)

Before we left for Tofino, Andrea, the reporter, let me know that the story would be running on July 10th! Okay, let me tell you I had a ton to do in a short period of time! That brings me to the next couple of things! I finally got my "Housewife's Featured Recipes" page up and running! On this page you can find all of the recipes that I've featured in my blog posts. I have them sorted, and if you click on the recipe, it will take you to the blog post! :) That was a big task, let me tell you, but I've been meaning to do it for quite some time! So I'm happy that the article was coming out because it really lit a fire under me to get this rolling!

I also finished recording and editing my video for the new contest that I'm going to hold! After my last contest, I really wanted to do another one that featured cooking. I can't even tell you how excited I am to see what you all come up with! You can click on the banner at the top of this page, or on the right hand side click on the link for "Recipe Contest." On that page I posted all the rules and information, as well as prizes, and a video explaining it and I also make a dish that I came up with! I can't wait for this! I hope you all come up with some great dishes for me to make and feature!! :)

I feel as if this post is all over the board! But I guess what can you expect? It is almost 1:30 in the morning! :) I initially wanted to wait up until midnight so I could stalk the Everett Herald's web page to see when the story posted! And after I read it about three times, my mind wouldn't stop. :) I won't lie, I was a bit scared to see what was written about me, but I finished the article with a smile on my face! :) I hope you all like it! :)

In other news, I've been adding on to the Taj MahChicken here at the farm. I've been trying to figure out a way to alleviate the bullying problem that I currently am facing. So I decided to add another four foot wide section on to the run. I just have to finish putting the trim pieces on tomorrow morning and I'll make sure to post pictures! :) The girls have been enjoying the extra space, and it's nice to have all three of them back in one pen. (Carnie has made a dog crate her home for the better part of a month and a half!)

Well, I'd better get to sleep...after all, I have to get up early and go to the store to buy 100 copies of the paper! :) Oh! I suppose you would like the link to the article. :) I purposely waited until the end so you'd read my entire post before reading the article. :) I'm sneaky like that.

Well I'm going to see if I can get some sleep. Hopefully Bravo! waits until the morning to call me to star in my own show. ;-) Just kidding. :) Until next time...Keep Cooking.

  1. Came here from the Everett Herald story. Unfortunately the link for your blog (at the bottom of the article) is wrong - I found you with a quick google. Nice blog! Welcome to the wonderful world of stay at home people. (Sleep eludes you, you allude to a few things).

  3. Kudos to you for doing the interview! It was a fun article to read, and shows how it doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman, the person staying at home taking care of the house has a big responsibility and work load. I'll be following your blog from now on!

  5. Great article! I'm happy to meet another "housewife". Ive spent ten years in the US Army Infantry, and another twenty odd years working in the Mechanical trade, I went back to school to finish my BS in Psych. During that time I cooked, cleaned, took care of the two dogs and two cats, and took care of home repairs. It's great to see someone else that has made an art form of caring for a home and a partner. My wife thinks I'm the better cook, but I have much yet to learn, so thanks for the blog!
Oh, and since I've decided to continue my education to complete my MA, it looks like I'll be taking care of house and hearth for a while longer!

  7. Saw the Herald account. Interesting. I noticed the comment about isolation--somewhat similiar to what I experienced when I realized that I would probably never get another job again. It took me a long time to redefine myself and perhaps never finished the project. But I no longer cringe about saying I cook a lot, and do a lot of housework, and play Don Quixote against the towering Himalaya blackberries that threaten to overrun the place. Stay strong!

    1. Okay your comment about playing Don Quixote against the towering Himalaya blackberries made Michael and I both laugh out loud!!! :) Yard work is NEVER ending! It seems like I mow the grass every other day! :) The isolation can get to me sometimes, but I've recently started taking Cooper and Puck to the dog park :) They get socialization and I do as well. :) It all seems to work out!

  13. Loved the article. Will continue to follow you. You're inspiring..I've recently retired and my husband has been doing most house and garden chores the past few years, so I've become lazy/complacent about housekeeping (oh heck, never was crazy about it). After starting to read You I will look at my home differently.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment! Housework is not my favorite thing to do, I won't lie, but it's all a part of it. But I've learned to crank up the music and sing and dance while doing it. **Quick note** make sure to close the blinds before singing and dancing ;-)
