Throwing it Back...Episode 2.

I thoroughly enjoyed posting a blog post from my past a few weeks ago. Because of that I've decided to do it again. I searched through my MySpace blog posts and found another that made me smile. While living in Hawaii, I had a friend here in Seattle that I thought I had a "teachable moment" with via chat. Sadly...my superb storytelling was lost on him. LOL.

Okay...So today I had a chance to tell the PERFECT Golden Girls style story!
BUT IT WAS WASTED! My friend didn't react like he was suppose to...as a matter of fact he didn't respond at all!!! Then came back like 10 minutes later saying, "Sorry was on the phone." LOL

Me
: you never know who's day you make by smiling at them on ur way to work...or by saying hello to
Me: let me tell you a little story...
Me: Picture it...Boston...2002....
Me: A young man had just moved to Boston...had one of the worst days of his short life there.....
My Friend: *picturing it*
Me: he worked a long day...and was feeling used/abused and worthless and wanted to pack up his things and head back for Minnesota...
Me: he got on the Green Line at Government Center....
Me: and sat in the front seat....
Me: and the T driver, a lady in her late 30s with big poofy blond hair looked back and asked if he was alright....
Me: she talked to him for the 20 minute T ride to his apt....
Me: and when he got off that T and said thanks and g'night....he realized that he mattered...someone took the time to talk to him...
Me: skip forward 2 years....
Me: the same young man...**2 years older now** was waiting for the T...had another rough day at work....but when the T pulled into the station he saw that same T driver from two years earlier....
Me: the mere sight of her put him in a better mood....
Me: as he was nearing his stop....
Me: he approached the driver and said..."I'm sorry to bother you...but I just wanted to tell you Thank You...2 years ago you took a few moments of your time to talk to me. I was having one of the worst days of my life...and the fact that you took that time meant all the world to me....
Me: and now every time I see you. I smile. And I'll never forget it."
Me: she looked at that young man....and smiled. and was like...omg are you serious???
Me: i'm so glad that i helped you. and you just made my day....its not been the best week...but hearing this has just turned everything around....
Me: james....
Me: that young man was....me....
Me: and that woman...Marilyn Monroe

The point of this blog, and yes there is a point. We all need moments in our lives where we realize that we do make a difference in people's lives or in society in general. And we get caught up in the day to day bull and forget that just smiling and taking the time to talk to someone might make the world of difference.

So take the time to smile at people. Take the time to actually ask them how they are doing, and care for once. Sometimes the littlest things mean the most.

Whenever I re-read this blog post from the past I think of how true it is. This is why I take the time to talk to people. This is why the ladies at the grocery store matter to me. They aren't just things put there to do work for me. They are people. You never know if your smile, or even a simple "Hello. How are you?" could be the difference between an absolute horrible day to one that people treat you like a human being. Be kind to one another.

And until next time...Keep Cooking!
